Before any framing goes up, the space has to be dry. That means checking for water intrusion after heavy rain, looking at how the lot drains, and making sure the sump system works if there is one. Sealing up moisture issues first protects everything you build on top of it.

Build it for below grade

Below-grade rooms call for the right materials: insulation that handles concrete walls, flooring that tolerates a little moisture, and framing that does not trap dampness. Done correctly, a finished basement feels like the rest of the house instead of an afterthought.
